About Cassandra

My true passion is photographing children and in addition to my freelance photography, I also create motivational posters for children, which I market as a fundraiser to schools and other child advocacy organizations. Education and Experience

I began photographing in my mother’s footsteps at a very young age however my first on the job experience was for Red Lion High School’s yearbook staff. Later I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in business management, a minor in international business and a concentration in Spanish and Latin American Studies. While in Pittsburgh I became an experienced sport digital photographer, photographing many of Pitt’s football, basketball and soccer games. When I was not photographing for Pitt’s newspaper, I was working for the University’s photography lab and studio where I worked as a preservationist with century old photographs and negatives from the University’s archives and the Carnegie Institute.

During my years at Pitt, I also attended Pittsburgh Filmmakers where I studied both black and white and color photography techniques. My studies also included documentary style photography and on the more artistic side, alternative darkroom and non-silver printing techniques. While at Filmmakers, I was able to perfect my photography and printing techniques with a variety of film and digital mediums.

My education also includes a week long workshop with National Geographic, studying documentary style photography and story boarding in Santa Fe, New Mexico as well as a week long workshop photographing the Olympic athletes in training with the top sport digital photographers in the country at The Summit in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Following my years in Pittsburgh, I returned to York, PA to begin my own business photographing weddings and portraits. These early years included freelance photography work photographing area high school sports for YA Varsity and documenting the lives of our community with The York Dispatch. My experience in photographing these moment by moment events adds an enjoyable and unique twist to my portraiture and wedding portfolio.

My experience in photographing natural, documentary style portraiture has been refined with my personal work in the American Southwest, Europe, South America and the Caribbean. My ability to capture candid moments without being observed by my subjects was perfected while in Bolivia as I spent two months documenting the Aymara and Quechua Indians in the throws of the Bolivian market place. A photography mission that needed to be conducted discretely and with much respect to the indigenous cultures that I was documenting, lending to my skills of photographing an event with great respect and discretion to the activities and participants in the event.
